Moda Cinema has existed in Kadıköy for 40 years, and is one of the most important and memorable centres for residents of Istanbul for cinema and culture on the Asian Side. The movie theatre first opened in 1969 under the name Kafkas Cinema and in 1984 changed its name to become Moda Cinema. Meeting an important need in the field culture and art on the Asian Side, Moda Cinema hosts a wide variety events from concerts to theatre, discussions of art to film festivals. At the height of popularity in the 80’s and 90’s in Istanbul’s art scene, in recent years its popularity has somewhat faded.
